Handmade ceramics are intended for daily use. Each piece is made from durable stoneware and fired at high temperatures, making it suitable for food and drink. Small variations in surface and form are part of the work and do not affect functionality. With regular use, pieces may develop subtle signs of wear that add to their character rather than diminish it.

Most pieces can be washed by hand using warm water and mild detergent. While stoneware is generally dishwasher safe, hand washing is recommended to preserve glaze surfaces and edges over time. Avoid abrasive sponges or harsh cleaning products, especially on textured or ash-glazed surfaces.

Sudden temperature changes can cause ceramics to crack. Allow pieces to warm naturally before adding hot liquids, and avoid transferring them directly from the refrigerator to a hot oven or microwave. Taking a moment between temperature shifts helps protect the integrity of the clay.

Stoneware ceramics can usually be used in the microwave for reheating. Oven use is not recommended unless explicitly stated. Dishwashers may be used occasionally, but lower temperatures and gentle cycles are preferable. Over time, repeated machine washing can dull glaze surfaces.

Ash-glazed and unglazed surfaces may feel more tactile and can absorb traces of tea, coffee, or food over time. This natural marking is part of the material’s life and reflects use rather than damage. If preferred, gentle cleaning with baking soda and warm water can help lift surface marks without harming the glaze.

Handmade ceramics are shaped by material, fire, and human touch. Small irregularities, glaze pooling, pinholes, or variations in colour are natural outcomes of the process. These qualities are not flaws but reminders of how the piece was made and why it is unique.
